Cast of Characters

Hi! I’m JP! This is my blog. Back in the day, I lived in the suburbs of Milwaukee with 2 parents, 2 brothers, and a sister. It was (mostly) great, and (mostly) uneventful, and (mostly) happy. Being the oldest, I am the bossiest of the bunch, and the only kid to have mom and dad and grandmas and grandpas to myself. This has somehow contributed greatly to my development.

Then, I up and moved to Minnesota, went to college, got good grades, drank in excess, and volunteered like it was going out of style. Somehow, all of these qualifications landed me in graduate school, and now I am a scientist. And the good thing about that is when you tell people you are a scientist, they stop asking questions.

As a scientist, I get to go to secret-scientist meetings in exotic locales. Pretty much the only perk of the gig. I met JT at one of these meetings, and he has proved to be a good companion, so I agreed to marry him. He is 3 parts smart mixed with 2 parts funny and 1 part sweet. He is also a self-proclaimed lazy person. As such, he sometimes cracks me up, and sometimes drives me crazy.

Once upon a time, we thought it would be a good idea to move to Kentucky. That only worked for a year, but we got a dog out of the deal – Barley, a Mastiff/Pit Bull mix. We are currently training Barley to sit and stay and fetch us beers from the fridge. Because he is that smart.  And even if he isn’t?  We are going to talk about him until you wished we never got a dog.  Our families are eagerly anticipating the day we finally have kids so that we stop talking about the damn dog already.

We also have three snakes – Karl, Gary, and Bert. I don’t even like snakes, and we have a deal that if any of them escape, I get to stay at a spa or luxury hotel until the snake is found. 3 snakes = 3 x more likely to escape. And that is what I like to call math I can use.

We now have a house in Minneapolis that we like to fix up. At least, we like to think about fixing it up. The actuality of the fixing-up is not always quite as good and has resulted in pulled muscles and bad moods. But, maybe someday we’ll have a real oven and the water in the basement will disappear. Until then, it’s pizza bagels in the easy-bake oven, and yardwork. Lots of yardwork.

Jason can be more than ONE part sweet if he really tries! As for being a lazy person, I thought you, Jen, could whip him into shape.

‘SCUSE ME…You left out the part where you lived in total, decadent luxury with the BEST family in the whole world. (AND your favorite aunt)

When did you drink in excess? You told me you were out studying in a different dorm room and fell asleep. I thought that happened a bit too often to be believable! You lose 100 brownie points and “most likely to become a nun” status.
