Chewy Mints

Today, on the way home from work, I got a free roll of Mentos! Yes! It’s almost ridiculous how pleased I was.

Also, today Jason adopted a new roomate. He’s a little hairy, but seems just as laid back and lazy as the rest of us.

Those of you that are thinking, “I didn’t know Jen was a dog person” are absolutely correct. I am not a dog person. Or a pet person, really, but all of us have our weak moments now and then. So from now on, I will just have to be a pet person.

Also, part of the deal is that Jason is in charge of cleaning up any feces, urine, or vomit that ends up in the house, and he’s got to clean the dog and train it. Actually, I am happy to help train it, since I think I’m the next Caesar Millan (dog whisperer). We’ve got big plans to make it the best dog ever, if it’s not already.

Barley (the other part of the deal is that Jason got to name him) did just about NOTHING all day today, he doesn’t bark, doesn’t fuss, doesn’t jump up on you, and we’ve already got him partially trained as to what “sit” and “stay” mean. When we took him for a walk, one of the neighbor’s dogs was running loose (with the neighbor chasing it), and Barley barked 3 times. That was the first we had heard him bark, and I’m pretty sure it would be enough to deter anyone who might decide to break in, or the ferile cats that roam the neighborhood. That’s good news, as far as I’m concerned.

Our only conflict seems to be that he doesn’t want to go near his crate, and he’s going to need to sleep in it tonight, and hang out there while we’re at work tomorrow. So far, both Jason and I have sat in the crate trying to talk him into it, but it hasn’t worked. Maybe WE’RE the ones getting crate trained here…

I believe you missed a K in that dogs name. AND WHAT ARE YOU THINKING!!!!!
    Travel is out!
    Car vacations are out!
    Food bill will go up!
And you will start talking to each other in “dog commands”

    Snake, dog….. what’s next????

Jason do we need to “talk”?

What do you mean “travel is out”? Aren’t you going to dogsit when we’re out of town?

You were the one that said to get a dog in the first place… remember when you said, “snake!?! why didn’t you get a dog?”

Now accepting monetary donations for the dog food bill.

    A few of Kevin’s comments:
    (1) This dog sounds just like my brother;
    (2) Why is the snake Karl? Shouldn’t it be Hops?
    (3) You should get a kangaroo and name it “Hops.”

ahhh..you got a dog!! I knew hanging out with Baylor all those years would have some sort of impact on you…WHEN (not if) you come up and visit me this summer you must bring your new dog up with you so i can see it!!

Kevin is totally right. The dog is exactly like Jason:
    1. both are not into exercise or long walks
    2. both are lazy
    3. neither bark very much, but mean business when they do
    4. both are whiney when you do something they don’t like
    5. both snore

On the other hand, they are different in some ways:
    1. Barley is muscular
    2. Barley has tried to hump other male dogs (he had a doggy play date today)
    3. Barley is responsive to my voice commands

And, apparently, Josh and Jason decided we need to get a green pet and name it “hops” since hops are green. I’ve put the kabosh on that one for now.

    Little J –

We’re looking into coming up this summer for some sort of family fun fest at your lake house. Just so you know, we’re inviting ourselves. Also, I bet Barley and Baylor would get along well, but we might get confused if we have to yell at them… say their names 5 times fast. It’s like a tongue-twister.
